The Canandaigua "District" included roughly present-day Ontario County and the area north to Lake Ontario. The "Easton subset" included in this database covers approximately the area of present-day Town of Gorham and Town of Hopewell (Hopewell was part of the Town of Gorham until 1823). The "Easton subset" consists of Township 9/2nd Range & Township 10/2nd Range on the map from Gilbert Tremain Smith, Creating Local Government in Ontario County, New York 1789-1801, Memorandum dated 20 May 2002 (Canandaigua, New York: Office of the Ontario County Historian, 1999). Individuals were identified based on O. Turner, History of the Pioneer Settlement of Phelps & Gorham's Purchase, and Morris' Reserve (Rochester, New York: William Alling, 1852, pg, 480).
